Between Languages
(Questo post in inglese è stato pubblicato su Asia Literary Review rivista letteraria online con cui collaboro da qualche mese. Dopo un anno di attesa, con una nuova redazione e un nuovo sponsor, la rivista verrà presentata di nuovo in edizione cartacea a Singapore nel contesto di Bridging Cultures, una quattro giorni di dibattito organizzata da Asian Pacific Writers and Translators Association tra il 17 e il 20 di luglio – e ci sarò anch’io).
I am an Italian, I spend part of the year in Beijing so I am right now writing in English sitting at my desk in one of the most important capital cities of the world, where almost nobody can speak English. I am barely able to correctly pronounce friends’ names using the right tone out of the four that Mandarin has (when I slip up, I am aware that possibly I am insulting my friends). I should add that I am writing this post for a prestigious online magazine in English, run by Hong Kong residents carrying English names, but having contributors from allover the continent and, obviously from mainland China: some of them speak Mandarin. But I could never be a regular blogger or contributor for any Chinese Literary Magazine. Continua su Asia Literary Review
